Monday

Pain is bad.
Pain Gate wide open. Please, someone, shut it?
Seratonin, where are you when I need you?
Empathetic souls in short supply.
Stumble a mile in my shoes.

Hey John~

My eyes bugged out when I noticed you had a WWW on your post. I thought I had been overlooking it for ages, but alas, this is a new room in your life. Congrats! :o).

I started my blog back in February.
I adore Barber's Adagio!
And listing tom's site is a great idea.
Go figure. You listed "Byron" under your faves..(haha)

Glad to see you here in blogger-ville.

Laurie

I take much pleasure from my poets and Byron is one who could take a lifetime to read, let alone absorb.
Graves is my favourite at present. Something to do with where my mind's at.

When the twin towers fell, Barber was used to smooth the pain of those of us watching the screens that week. I insisted that it was played during my mum's funeral service. It is an uplifting piece, with beautiful undertones.

Spem in Alium is awesome. It must have a full choral treatment though. No instruments.

Hi John~

I'll head over to the amazon and check out Spem in Alium. I suspect it is wonderful.

I have a 'thing' about not wanting to associate a particular piece of music to a tragedy, for fear it will ruin it for me in the future. If Barber's Adagio is still working for you, maybe my theory is all wrong.

Another piece that is one of my fave classical Profound pieces is Elgar's 'concerto for cello' It is 8 minutes of 'glad I am human' bliss.

laurie, synchronicity strikes again.
This morning, while engaged in things 'domestic,' I put my Cello Classics on the kitchen's CD player.
Guess what number 12 is, in E minor - III Adagio?
Yep!!
Jacqeline du Pre and the LSO.

Hi John~

Jacqueline de Pre is the Best! I have at least a couple of versions of her doing this piece. At least one of them conducted by her husband Daniel Barenboim.

The piece that particulaly floats my boat is:
Cello Concerto Op. 85
the first movement (I adagio). There are 2 intensive crescendos that cry for the volume to be turned way up :o)

Sorry to get chatty here, but if you like du Pre, I recommend the movie: Hilary & Jackie (or is visa versa?) about her life and death.

ciao,
Laurie
